Have a 2001 NM that has just developed that front diff grind, again all good in 4WD. Have seen on a forum elsewhere that you can get the vacuum solenoids from Ashdown Ingram for a fraction of the price, but will they do the trick?

Have checked and greased the shaft, but does not seem to be moving much when you change between 2 and 4WD.

Cheers,

hello scotty ,
if your 4wd system works properly then you got a simple problem i guess , you can check the vacuum valves ( yellow and blue dotted valves found in the engine bay under the air intake rubber manifold on the right side) , look for leaks in the air pipes stretching from these valves to the front diff , also one very important thing to do is to get under the truck and check the front diff , there you will see 2 air pipes attached to the diff worth check them also for leaks , there is a horizontal rubber boot attached to the front diff (sometimes its hard to see because it lies under the metal skid), slide the rubber off carefully you will see a small shaft under it , this shaft activate the 4wd system , apply grease to this shaft and return the rubber cover to it , and try to apply 4wd several times , the flashing may stop. for more help you can visit www.pocuk.com and register there and see the forums , you can ask there also its very helpful.

We stop the car and wait then drive off and the lights stop flashing. 20min later lights flash again. This only happens when we are on a long drive.
Hi Craig, I have just purchased a 1998 (manufactured year) Pajero NL LWB manual transmission-4M40 2.8L turbo diesel engine and the orange light next to C/D Lock remains flashing whilst the four green lights do not light in 2WD-rear drive. When I change to 4WD, 4HLC & 4LLc , the drive to all wheels are engaged and can be felt. The 4 green lights are "on" only when in 4HLc & 4LLC position. We found out that one vacuum solenoid valve actuator need to be replaced (The yellow marked one). By the time the ordered part be received, I would like to check the vacuum piping connections. It seems that the vacuum piping on my Pajero are all mixed up and only two pipes on the four rubber pipes that are connected to the two actuators, found next to the master brake cylinder, are marked with either the blue or yellow colour. All the rubber pipes connected to the steel pipes found at the under part of the engine compartment do not have and blue or yellow marking. Thanks to provide me with a diagram / schema of the vacuum piping, if available? I have the Haynes Pajero repair manual reference “68766” but there are nothing mentioned on this matter.

Hi Ron fry
All the lights and selection are now working properly on the 4X4 system but now the speed cruise doesn't work any more. I took the vehicle back to the gearbox centre but they told me it was the plug from the speedo sensor. They cleaned it and conected it again and tried it again. When I cruise at 120km/h I set the speed cruise but it as soon as I take my foot of the accelerator pedal the speed cruise engage but after about two seconds it disengage again. I have tried a few times again but with no success. Does anybody have any suggestions.

Kind Regards

Hi Wynand, I have just replaced 2001 pagero diesel gearbox because of stripped gearbox mainshaft and transfer case primary sleeve gear, found the mainshaft bearing collapsed, Do not know if bearing caused failure or shaft caused bearing failure, have now got the dreaded flashing 4x4 light, checked all the sensors, I think the ecu is playing up

Hi there
I also had the problem when I selected 4X4 L all the lights started flashing and after a few seconds the orange senter difflock light started flashing. I had to switch the vehicle off and start again to reset the lights although the 4X4 was engaged there where no indication on the lights. I had a gearbox brakedown recently when the main output shaft into the tranfer case and the main gear inner splines striped, why they don't know. When they worked on the gearbox they found that the sensors made poor conection at the conections. Luckely the problem where solved. I just wanted to hear if anybody have had the same brakedown on the main output shaft and gear splines. Is this common for Pajero to strip the plines because we waited guite a long time for replacement parts?

Kind Regards
