‘New’ Brock Commodores
After the death on September 8th, 2006 of Australian driving legend Peter Brock, his ‘Brock Commodores’ have become one of the most sought after cars in the country.
Record prices are being reached for both the cars and any memorabilia associated with the nine-times Bathurst 1000 race winner.
After reading an article on drive.com.au about the sale of Brock’s Holden Dealer Team and the subsequent plans to release ‘all new Brock Commodores’, I for one thought that it may have been a plan to cash-in on the legends death however after reading about the new owner of HDT it seems that there was a close relationship between the two and the ‘new’ cars were on the drawing board before Peter Perfect’s untimely death.
The new owner of the Holden Dealer Team, Peter Champion, knew Peter Brock very well and owns no less than 40 Brock Commodores, from road going to race versions. Peter Champion was also a driving force behind the build up of a replica of Peter Brocks first race car, an Austin A30. So it seems that Peter (Champion) has more than a vested interest in the future of the Holden Dealer Team and the business is in the best possible hands.
But now back to the cars. The ‘new’ cars are based on the current model Commodore SS and HDT is offering what looks to be simply a body kit and paint work based on the original cars from 20-odd years ago. At this stage mechanical enhancements are not being offered so as to not void the Holden new car warranty. I have to say that I am not impressed with the look of a modern car wrapped in old car styling and a Brock Commodore without engine and suspension enhancements can be likened to a meat pie without sauce!
That’s only my opinion of course, however owning a VK Group A replica myself, I just can’t get past the use of a classic car style on new metal. Have a look and tell us what you think.

The man and the original cars and below an artists impression of the new cars.

well to be honest i think it looks terrible. But then again so do most holdens. I drive an alfa go figure. My names dale i just dont think the 1980 style works on new cars.
but hey what do i know im just a private school rich boy
Well brocky was a legend but to the boys at holden i say try again boys try somethin like a high powered ve senator with special brocky badges or something.
and maybe try a different style with your next model?.
but im only a ford fan.
I agree guys. Ford Fan you’re spot on the money I reckon, build something different and badge it a ‘Brock’.
That new deisgn actually looks pretty good to me. The older verisons were legendary and excellent.
I like, not too sure about the replication of the stripes though. Leave the whole modern bad stripe scene to FPV i say!
I don’t think they have gone too far trying to encorperate the old and new, it’s just a stylish fresh package if you look at it without the origional cars in mind. Dissapointing that it’s only a kited SS though, you would think that HDT could come up with some sort of agreement with holden to keep the warrenty on a moded version.
Gday, being a huge peter brock fan, i think that they need to scrap this idea and leave the “OLD HDT” cars to appreciate in value, if these ones get built the older ones will decrease in value enormously and im guessing that the people that own them cars will be a liitle more than peeved if u catch my drift.
Mate… the only thing that would decrease the value of original HDT Brock Commodores now would be PB coming back from the grave, and even then I’m not so sure
I like the artist impressions.. the VH mockup I’m not completely sold on.. but I love the white and black versions of the VC remake.
Hi,
I would just like to say i think these cars look awesome, where can i get one?:) i want to be the 1st to know…. lol
Having owned a Brock VK Group 3 i have to say i’m quite partial to these modern day interpretations of HDT Commodores!
The current VE shape with the retro HDT styling is an awesome and honorary tribute to the great man and his machines!
You’re definitely on a winner!!!
as a old owner of a brock vc commodore,i thing that the look of these new ve brock commodore are pretty good, but then all commodore are the best.
but then i am not a dick who drives a alfa!!!!!!!!!!!
These things look absolutely terrible. Whoever designed these packages obviously is a complete amateur or has never designed a car in there life. I think they cost 20 grand above a base SS Commodore price? What do you get for that 20 grand? a few stickers and spoiler kit??? They aren’t seriously selling these are they? I don’t think they’ll sell too many. HSV’s are 1000 times better looking and designed by professionals.
I finally got a glimpse of one of these in the flesh this week cruising down the road at Strathpine and I think the only reason I noticed it was because it was black!
There is not a lot that seperates them from every other ‘Commodore with a Kit’ on the road.

HUGE VC fan, have one of the few manual models left. cannot comprehend the relation between the two at all. (old and new) but to me they stopped being Commodores when the first VL rolled out!! No ‘new’ Brocks’ for me. bloodie horrible!!!!!!
