Pitted against the likes of the Toyota Camry (Altise and Hybrid), Honda Accord Euro, Ford Mondeo and the BMW 320i sedan, the Mazda 6 came in with the cheapest owning and operating cost of $204.29 per week.

“How much an individual pays to purchase a car is just a piece of the picture. We also assess how much it costs to have the car serviced, the cost of fuel, tyres, insurance, registration, RACV membership, interest, stamp duty, drivers’ licence as well as an assortment of spare parts like windscreens and batteries.” RACV’s General Manager Public Policy Brian Negus said.

Not surprisingly the three most expensive cars to own and operate are the Toyota Land Cruisers, with the Diesel Wagon costing a whopping $385.79 per week. The Hyundai Getz shines in the Light category and the Duel Fuel V6 Commodore takes the prize in the Large car division.
