Lexus Australia Set To Recall 1,000+ Cars

In what had been a recall-ridden 18 months for Totota, their luxury arm Lexus is set to recall over one thousand cars here in Australia due to a potential problem with the engine valve springs. The recall is part of a global recall of around 270,000 cars announced by Toyota in Japan.

The affected vehicles include the GL and LS models manufactured between February 2007 and August 2008 and fitted with either the 4.6 litre or 5.0 litre V8 engine. None of the 2009 or current model vehicles are affected.

The recall relates to an issue in the valve spring manufacturing process where some foreign material may have contaminated a small number of the valve springs. This contamination could lead to cracking of the valve spring or spring breakage.

If there is a valve spring breakage there is the possibility of rough engine idling, noisy valve train operation or potentially the engine could stall during normal driving.

Lexus Australia spokesman Mike Breen said there have been no reports of engine stalling or accidents occurring as a result of this issue, although there had been one report of an engine misfire.

Owners of vehicles involved in the recall can continue to drive their vehicles but if symptoms such as vibration, rough idling, unusual engine sounds or poor performance are noticed the vehicle should be taken to a Lexus dealer for service.

Lexus will be contacting owners of the affected vehicles to arrange for the valve springs to be replaced.

  1. General fact is and even more common in automotive companies,is that it has to call one of it’s vehicle every year back for remoduelling internally, but it’s good part of companies to recall it when required for better customer base and relation’s,,,
