No it isn't necessary to unplug the battery before replacing the spark plugs, just be sure not to crank the engine over while the spark plug leads are removed from the spark plugs.</description>

The best method for cleaning spark plugs is a gentle clean with a wire brush or wire wheel on a bench grinder. Using just enough pressure to remove any carbon deposits but not enough pressure to cause any damage to the porcelain around the centre electrode. 
I would stay away from WD-40 and products like that as they may cause problems with the spark when the plug is refitted.</description>
